Review: The Martian

Review: The Martian

Well, here we go again. Another movie adapted from a novel by the same name. The Martian was written by Andy Weir, and was a phenomenal success. One of our very own staff members, Jenny, turned us all onto this book and we fell in love with the survival story. We rooted for Mark Watney as he fiercely struggled to survive on the red planet all on his own. Then we heard that our new favorite book was being turned into a major motion picture starring Matt Damon...and we got scared. A few months ago we were fortunate enough to speak with the author, Andy Weir and ask him how he felt about his book being turned into a film (you can listen to that interview here). He was optimistic and positive about the whole experience. I went into the theater excited. I was hopeful. I was...not let down.

Review: Sicario

Review: Sicario

I was lucky enough to be invited to a special screening of the upcoming Lionsgate film Sicario. Going into the movie, I had some high expectations as the trailers mention, the movie has been getting rave reviews by critics nationwide. It has a stellar cast with Josh Brolin, Beinicio del Toro, and Emily Blunt leading the way. So, I expected a lot from this crime thriller about the Drug War on the U.S. and Mexico boarder...and I wasn't disappointed.

The Binge Watch: Heroes - Season 2

I watch a LOT of television. So much so, that even though there are hundreds of channels with dozens upon dozens of quality shows out there, I still find time to go back and binge watch some of my old favorites. Enter my Binge Watch column. Every two weeks I'll present to you my review of a new show, or new season of a show. I'll try to pick shows I haven't watched yet, or obscure shows you may not have seen yet. Sit back and binge some TV with me!

Guillermo Del Toro - In Service of Monsters

On any given day you will find me in some conversation or debate concerning how absolutely amazing GDT is. Just everything this man does has creepy beauty that is right down my alley.  So the second I heard that my favorite gallery here in Los Angeles was paying tribute, I was beyond excited. 1988 Gallery is genius for the simple fact that they take a subject that has a deep fan base and opens it up to a plethora of amazing artists. The artists involved do not disappoint. All aspects of Guillermo Del Toro’s work was represented in abstract, direct and gorgeous ways.  With me being a MEGA GDT fan, I was standing in a line opening night awaiting entrance to a rotating wall-to-wall group of like minded people.

I ask you this question, Geekdom; will you join me in a journey into the deepest
depths of horrifying and peer into the darkness of your most despised subjects? Will you join me
in embracing the hate?
