Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie In Development!

By: Kyle Krause

News has come out today that the forever rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in development at Lucasfilm. Alec Guinness first played the character in the original trilogy and Ewan McGregor played a younger version of Kenobi in the Prequel Trilogy. Fans are wanting Ewan McGregor to reprise his role and McGregor has also said that he would love to play Kenobi again. There is a director in talks for the film and that director is Stephen Daldry. He is the director of The Hours and Billy Elliot. No crew or script is available yet. Lucasfilm is wanting Stephen Daldry to write and develop the movie. There have been stories about Kenobi set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. But those stories are now considered to be part of the legacy collection of stories. This gives writers the ability to create a whole new story for Kenobi on Tatoonie and young Luke Skywalker. Recently though, we've seen some of Old Ben's story play out in the now canon animated series Star Wars Rebels and within the panels and pages of the Star Wars comics.

With the success of Rogue One and the skepticism already in place from the vocal internet fan community for the untitled Young Han Solo film, this adds another layer of question to the choices of films that Lucasfilm and Disney are making to date. Should they be focusing on already established characters and stories or give us a look at something new in film, like maybe the Old Republic? Or even newer characters within the Universe? When Disney acquired Lucasfilm it was rumored that this Obi-Wan movie would be made along with a Boba Fett film, and a Yoda film.

What do you think about the news? Are you excited for more Star Wars content? Do you want to see stories of already established characters or would you rather see new stories from new characters? Let us know in the comments!
