Today we kick off our Top Ten Horror Film Countdown. The Atomic Geekdom staff voted and we put together this list of our favorite horror films. Each day, leading up to Halloween, we'll reveal the next entry in our countdown. So let's begin...
It starts as an interest, then you're a fan, now you're a geek.
This month celebrates one of my favorite holidays...Halloween! I have always loved this time of year. Not just the fall weather (if you live in an area to actually have a fall season) and not just because football is in full swing, but because I love everything about Halloween. Decorations on houses, horror movies all over cable television and being released into theaters, cute kids dressed up as superheroes and cartoon characters, what's not to love? So in the spirit of the season, we've chosen to do an all month long theme of Halloween for the podcast and the site.
While doing press for 'Book of Life', Channing Tatum was asked by MTV about his upcoming role as Gambit. While its unknown if we'll see Gambit in a solo film or as a part of an upcoming X-Men film, we do know that he's high on the list of mutants we'll be seeing featured on the big screen soon.
With the recent announcement of the Civil War event happening in 'Captain America 3' Warner Bros. were due to make a splash in the comic book movie announcement war. Today at a shareholder meeting, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced the plans for the Justice League film directed by Zack Snyder. He also gave news of a few upcoming films in the works as well.
Earlier today Marvel announced a large Civil War event to take place in the Marvel Comic Book Universe in 2015, now Variety is reporting that we'll see some Civil War action taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to join Chris Evans in 'Captain America 3' which will be directed by the Russo Brothers and is set for a May 6th 2016 release. The third film in the Cap series is set to follow 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (May 1st 2015) and 'Ant-Man' (July 17th 2015.)
It appears we won't have to wait too long to see Flash's time traveling nemesis, Reverse Flash on the show. Some photos surfaced from the set earlier today showing stunt doubles filming an upcoming episode of The Flash. Theories are floating around the internet as to who might actually be Reverse Flash, ranging from Eddie Thawne to Harrison Wells. What's your theory?
Thanks again to @FlashCWFans for the following on set photos from the filming of 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.' The photos show Henry Cavill as Clark Kent filming near some building. Nothing groundbreaking, but just some candid on set shots. Enjoy!
A few months ago it was announced that Marvel would be replacing the Thor we've known for so long, with a new version...a new female version. This news caused waves in the fanboy comic loving world. We've seen changes to our favorite comic book characters before (see my story about the new Wally West). This change seemed to have come from nowhere, but it wasn't alone. We also found out that we'd be seeing a new Captain America soon in the form of Falcon taking over for Steve Rogers. Well, the time for change has come as Thor #1 has hit shelves this week.
A few weeks ago we got news that AMC had ordered a pilot episode for a companion series of The Walking Dead. We weren't told much aside from Robert Kirkman's involvement along with showrunner Dave Erickson. But now, thanks to TVLine, we have a few summaries of some of the characters we may expect from the new series.
First, let me say that this is an article about the Turtles not the newest movie. I did enjoy the movie and it was good to see them back on the big screen but this article is more about the Turtles as characters not any specific movie, book, or show. I will probably even do more than one TMNT based article going forward. I have loved the turtles since...forever I think. Their adventures and battles against Shredder were always great to watch. Two things always stood out to me; how the brothers needed each other, whether they admitted it or not and their incredible confidence in who they were as individuals in a team. They had their fights, like all siblings, but in the end they came together to save the day. There was one thing that held them together, their father Splinter. I always loved Splinter, not just because he was wise or he could kick butt, but because his faith in his children never wavered. Splinter raised Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo to believe in themselves and each other. He helped them find their identity and how they each fit into the group. Leonardo was a natural leader, Raphael was bold and strong, Donatello was incredibly intelligent, and Mikey loved life and was the one who kept everybody loose. Imagine what this team would look like if Splinter was not around. There would be no team or maybe there would be but it would not be the "save the day" team we know. They would be a mess.
We all saw the test footage of the potential Deadpool film with Ryan Reynolds providing his voice and motion capture. It left us all wondering when we'd get to see the real thing in a full feature capacity. Today we got news from Twentieth Century Fox that 'Deadpool' is coming to theaters on February 12, 2016. What's significant about the date? It means production will begin soon, and that it will release before 'X-Men: Apocalypse.' It's unconfirmed but expected that Reynolds will reprise the role and that writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) will still get to see that script they wrote get some kind of treatment. Director Tim Miller is said to be directing the film as well.
Well we were expecting to see the Rogues on 'Flash' eventually and one key member might be joining them soon...but first he'll be seen on 'Arrow.' Nick Tarabay (Star Trek Into Darkness, Spartacus) will portray Digger Harkness aka Captain Boomerang. He'll make his debut in the seventh episode of the season and then continue into the eighth episode which we know will be the crossover event episode with 'The Flash.'
Something official from Disney has been released regarding the highly anticipated sequel to the 'Avengers' which was a record breaking hit. 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is still a few months from being released, and we haven't seen a trailer yet (Unless you were at SDCC this year) but finally an official synopsis was released earlier today.
Its finally here, a full trailer for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' and its awesome. This was my favorite book, simply for the fact of how they resolved this large scoping storyline. I thought the ending was realistic and I thought that it was not the normal way stories end these days. It was gritty and dark and I'm looking forward to seeing it translate to the screen. In this trailer we get to see the fully brainwashed Peeta making public statements against the rebellion, and we see a very strong and determined Katniss fighting against the rebel leaders.
